Pre- Apprenticeship Electrical Program

IEC PA’s Aspire To Be An Electrician Program provides the opportunity for the completion of an electrical career exploratory course to high school seniors.

IEC PA will provide related technical instruction which aligns to the first-year curriculum from the IEC PA Apprenticeship Program

Participants will complete the post-secondary college-level coursework on our IEC online CMS/moodle system

We will make every effort to provide opportunities for participants to complete the hands-on labs required by the first-year curriculum; however, these opportunities are not required for the online program and are not guaranteed, as they depend on factors such as scheduling availability and student location.

IEC PA Pre-Apprenticeship Program Registration Deadline

Interested students must enroll through your school. Please work with your high school career counselor to become a participating school (see below).

Students are required to spend 6-8 hours per week completing lessons independently.

Participants who complete the course successfully with a grade of 70% or higher receive a completion certificate from IEC PA and the Department of Labor & Industry, as well as the opportunity to apply to the IEC PA Apprenticeship Program to continue their electrical career pathway.

Pre-Apprenticeship Curriculum

Identification of appropriate hand tools and how to properly use those tools

Demonstration of basic math and metric used by electricians

Exposure to basic wiring concepts, wiring methods and installation techniques

Identification of fixtures, switches, and receptacles

Understanding the NEC codebook and defining up to thirty electrical terms

Identification of common electrical symbols
